I have always loved to read and have been doing so since the age of four. I have 2 older brothers who were in school by then and I wanted to be just like them. So, my dear sweet Mama, took the time from her day to teach me at home. As a child I devoured books like others devoured food. I read at all times, sometimes to my mother's chagrin (in church?). I would stay up all night with a flash light and Mama would take my books away as punishment.
As I got older and became a Mama myself, I found myself reading less and less. Work, chores, and kids all took over and reading moved to the back seat. Also, when I read I find myself so immersed in the story that I don't hear what is going on around me. The story and characters become a part of me and I of them. I also could not put the book down and would read until it was done. This is not a good situation when you are a young mother of 2 small children and your husband is at work. So reading was left behind for other pursuits.
For many years I just collected books and didn't read them. I couldn't bring myself too. I didn't want reading to take over like it used to. So here I was with shelves and shelves of books. Then one day, I picked one up. I found I still like to read. I also found I could put the book down when I needed to. So I read another, and another, and another...until I was back to my first true love. The written word... :) So now, since I find myself in a bit of a financial bind, one of my bucket list items is too read all the books I already own. That should take me awhile. While I do so, I will post them here with a bit of a review (maybe). Check back often....there are a LOT of books on my shelves! :-)
Now Reading:
- Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge
- Labyrinth by Kate Mosse
Finished
- The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff (December 2014)
- The Shadowy Horses by Susannah Kearsely (December 2014)
- The Orchid House by Luncidna Riley (January 2014)
